Islamabad, Oct 15, (Asia Free Press): British lawmaker David Amess was stabbed to death today in a church during constituency surgery at Essex, eastern England, reported Reuters.
David Amess represented Southend West in Essex, eastern England and was stabbed at around midday during a meeting at the Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea.
Armed police has been deployed in and around the church, a suspected person has also been detained.
“He (Amess) was treated by emergency services but, sadly, died at the scene,” police said.
“A 25-year-old man was quickly arrested after officers arrived at the scene on suspicion of murder and a knife was recovered.”
David, who was first elected to parliament in 1983, leaves a wife and five children.
Sajid Javid, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care of the United Kingdom, tweeted: “Devastated to learn of Sir David Amess’ murder. A great man, a great friend, and a great MP killed while fulfilling his democratic role. My heart goes out to Julia, his family, and all who loved him. Let us remember him and what he did with his life.”
