ISLAMABAD, Jan 08, (Asia Free Press): Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will undertake an official first visit of the year to Romania and Spain from 9-12 January 2022, according to the Foreign Office statement.

During the first leg of the visit, Foreign Minister Qureshi will visit Bucharest, the capital of Romania, at the invitation of his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu from 9-10 January 2022, read the statement.

The Foreign Minister will hold meetings with the Romanian Foreign Minister and other high-level dignitaries. Besides focusing on measures to deepen bilateral engagements further, the two sides will hold wide-ranging consultations on regional and international issues, particularly Afghanistan’s current situation.

The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood will subsequently visit Spain at the invitation of his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares Bueno from 10-12 January 2022. Besides meeting with his Spanish counterpart, Qureshi will hold meetings with other Ministers and Members of the Spanish Parliament in Madrid, the capital of Spain.

A notable Pakistani diaspora in Spain is a vital bridge between the two countries. In 2021, Pakistan and Spain celebrated the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic engagements.

Romania and Spain are essential partners of Pakistan, both bilaterally and in the European Union (EU) context. The Foreign Minister’s visit will further impetus to the growing cooperation with these two friendly European countries.

This is the first diplomatic visit of Qureshi to any country after hosting the 17th extraordinary moot of the OIC Council of Foreign Minister (CFM) on Afghanistan’s situations, which concluded on Dec 19, 2021, with a remarkable outcome.
