CANBERRA, Sep 30 (Asia Free Press): Delta virus, that first identified in India, has hit Australia as the country reported over 2,400 new cases, for the first time since pandemic outbreak.
Australian state Victoria has recorded 1,438 infections, highest single-day cases in the state since 2019, ABC News reported.
Earlier on Sept. 11, NSW state recorded 1,603 cases, the highest single-day number in any state of Australia. However, the new cases in NSW now declining as the state reported 943 cases on Thursday.
Victoria’s daily new case tally overtook NSW for the first time during the Delta wave and has continued to climb.
So far Australia recorded 104,934 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 1,291 deaths.
Indian Delta variant has spread across the world as many countries including Pakistan, South Korea, Australia, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal are currently facing new wave of Delta virus.
