Islamabad: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Thursday appointed a new head for its intelligence arm on Thursday.
The change of guard comes following series of mysterious deaths of Iranian military personnel. Brig. Gen. Mohammad Kazemi replaced Hossein Taeb who held the post since the organization’s inception in 2009.Kazemi will he heading the IRGC’s Intelligence Organization, state media quoted the IRGC’s spokesman Ramezan Sharif as saying.
Even though no reason was given for the change, however it is believed that it was triggered by recent series of assassinations and mysterious deaths of members of the IRGC.
Other individuals associated with Iran’s military over the past few week, media reports said.
A report cited the most recent high-profile IRGC Colonel Sayyad Khodaei was killed in a gun attack in the capital Tehran on May 22. Iran had blamed Israel for the killing and had vowed to take revenge.
