UNITED NATIONS, Jan 21 (Asia Free Press): The Secretary-General of the United Nations Organisation (UNO) Antonio Guterres accepted the invitation to attend the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, which will be scheduled from February 4-20, the UNO spokesperson confirmed.
“The secretary-general received an invitation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Games and he has accepted it,” spokesperson Stephane Dujarric claimed.
In September 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin also accepted the invitation to attend the Winter Olympics’ opening ceremony, reported CGTN.
“In 2014, President Xi attended the opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics upon invitation. This time, President Xi has extended an invitation to his good friend President Putin to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a press briefing while adding, “President Putin has gladly accepted the invitation.”
The Chinese and the Russian sides are now in close communication on Putin’s trip, Chinese FO spokesman further added.
“We believe the two heads of state’s get-together for the Winter Olympics will once again show that the two sides enjoy a partnership like neighbors and relatives wishing each other well,” said Zhao.
Besides, the President of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), President of Argentina, President of Poland, President of Turkey, President of Iran, Prime Minister of Pakistan and many other prime leaders of the world to be attended the upcoming opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.
