Afghanistan is integral part of central Asia, Shavkat told UNGA
NEW YORK, Sep 22 (Asia Free Press): Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Tuesday said that his country would not leave Afghanistan alone in current difficult time.
Addressing to the 76th UN General Assembly session, President Shavkat said that Afghanistan is an integral part of Central Asia and they always helped his neighbouring country.
“It is not only us and the neighboring states, but also the whole world are interested in the establishment of peace and tranquility in this country,” he said.
Briefing the participants of the UN body regarding efforts of his country, he said Uzbekistan has recently opened the Uzbek-Afghan border and resumed the supply of basic-needs and oil products, as well as electricity to Afghanistan.
“During these challenging times, it is impossible to isolate Afghanistan and leave it within the range of its problems,” he added.
He urged the UN to play its active role and said last year he proposed during the UNGA session to establish a permanent UN Committee on Afghanistan.
“The influence and voice of the United Nations on Afghanistan must be heard louder than ever,” the Uzbek President said
