SRINAGAR, May 22 (AsiaFreePress): After the release of the final report on the delimitation of the assembly constituencies of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the politics on it has intensified. Mehbooba Mufti, former Chief Minister of India Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK) and chief of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described the Delimitation Commission as an extension of BJP. Rejecting the commission and its proposed changes, Mehbooba Mufti said the draft is meant as a link to the abrogation of Article 370 on how to weaken the people of Jammu and Kashmir. She said that it has ignored the base of population and has worked as per the wishes of the BJP. We reject it outright. We do not trust this.
Former chief minister of IOJK and senior Congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday said that the delimitation commission’s final report a “tailor made”, aimed at benefitting some leaders.
Talking to media persons in Jammu, Azad, while reacting to the demands of Kashmiri Pandits, said that the security related concerns of all the vulnerable people, be it KPs, Muslims or Sikhs, must be addressed.
About the delimitation report, he said it seems a tailor made, aimed at benefitting particular leaders and defeating other leaders.
“The entire exercise has been blind to the universally accepted and practiced criteria and principles with regards to electoral representation. However no amount of gerrymandering will save the BJP, and its proxies from the wrath of people,” National Conference had said in a statement rejecting second draft of delimitation report, adding that it would study its implications at the constituency level before making final its response.
