Srinagar, Dec 10 (Asia Free Press): On International Human Rights Day, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz (M) faction has said that for the past three decades the abysmal human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir has shown no sign of improvement.

In statement, Hurriyat (M) said that since August 5 2019, with unprecedented lockdowns, detentions and communications gags, human rights are the greatest casualty.

Hurriyat (M) said that all forms of human rights violations are unacceptable be it from the state, or killing of minority community members and non-locals living here.

“The universal principle of upholding human rights applies to all human beings irrespective of their identity.”

“Despite the global pandemic coronavirus (Covid-19), hitting us all many times the basic facility of communication and internet is inaccessible to the people of J&K thereby adding to our woes and miseries.”

Hurriyat (M) said that activists including human rights activists, youth, political workers, respected members of civil society social workers and political leaders are languishing in jails without charges and access to legal redressal.

It said that owing to this policy Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar is also under house detention for the last more than two years.

Hurriyat (M) made an appeal to international human rights organisations which include United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, Asia Watch, National Human Rights Commission and to all the people in general and people of India in particular to play their part in ensuring that the conflict is resolved and the fundamental human rights of people of J&K are respected and reinstated.

Hurriyat (M) also appealed to all these forums for the release of Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the entire political leadership and all the political prisoners and youth of J&K imprisoned in various jails across India.
