KABUL(BNA): Three years ago, on this day, Afghanistan was liberated from 20 years of American occupation as the capital city of Kabul was conquered by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s forces. The anniversary of this momentous occasion was celebrated across the country today, Wednesday 14 August.
In a statement released by the Islamic Emirate, they described August 14th as “an important and glorious day in the history of Afghanistan” when the “great aggressive forces of the time were defeated” through the “Jihad, struggle, patience and perseverance of us Afghans.”
The statement went on to praise the sacrifices and jihadi efforts of the Mujahideen fighters who helped secure this victory, saying “we congratulate our faithful and mujahid brothers and honor their jihadi sacrifices and struggle in this cause.”
The Islamic Emirate reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the “Islamic system” that has been established in the country, which has brought “peace and security” and provided “opportunity for the material and spiritual prosperity of our country.” The Islamic Emirate called on all Afghans to be “grateful for this great blessing” and to be “ready to protect and support it.”
In closing, the Emirate asked Allah to grant their leadership and officials “success in this great responsibility” and to “protect them from any deception and corruption” as they work to implement Sharia law across Afghanistan.
This anniversary marks three years of Islamic Emirate rule in Afghanistan following their takeover in the summer of 2021 as American and coalition forces withdrew from the country after two decades of military presence. The Islamic Emirate’s strict interpretation of Islamic law has drawn criticism from the international community, but they remain firmly in control of the country.
