BEIJING, Dec. 25, (Asia Free Press): Zhao Lijian, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said, Japan is hoped and urged to take concrete and appropriate actions to honor its word on supporting each other in hosting the Olympics and to not politicising sports activities at any cost.

Spokesperson Lijian made the said remarks at a daily press briefing while responding to media reports that Japan’s Olympic Committee President Yasuhiro Yamashita, Paralympic Committee President Kazuyuki Mori, and Tokyo 2020 organizing committee president Seiko Hashimoto will attend the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and Japan’s delegation of athletes will compete in the Beijing Games 2022 as scheduled, but Japan has no plans to send a government delegation.

“China welcomes representatives of Japan’s Olympic Committee and other organisations as well as Japanese athletes to the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics,” Zhao further claimed while adding that Japan and China agreed to support each other in hosting the Olympics.

“China has every confidence that working together with all sides under the Olympic motto of ‘together’, China will deliver a streamlined, safe and splendid Olympic event to the world,” Spokesman further asserted.

Earlier, the United States, Australia, Canada and Britain had diplomatic boycotts during the 2022 Winter Beijing Olympics concerned Chinese atrocities against the Uyghur community. China has called the boycotts “political posturing” and a smear campaign in response to the U.S. and its allies.

The 2022 Winter Olympics, officially the XXIV Olympic Winter Games and commonly known as Beijing2022 are an upcoming international winter multi-sport event scheduled to take place from 4 to 20 February 2022 in Beijing and towns in the neighboring Hebei province in the People’s Republic of China.
