BEIJING, Dec 17, (Asia Free Press): Wang Wenbin, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman, says China stands ready to work with Pakistan to promote the high-quality development of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to build up regional connectivity and economic integration between the two border-sharing countries.
“The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a pilot project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)”, Wang Wenbin said in a written reply in response to a comment made by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi about the BRI and CPEC connectivity a few days ago, according to Chinese media.
The spokesperson said that, as Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Qureshi pointed out, the Belt and Road cooperation has removed infrastructure bottlenecks faced by many regions along the route.
“It promotes connectivity and makes an important contribution to global trade facilitation and economic growth,” the Chinese FM Spokesman further asserted.
A few days ago, addressing a conference organized by an Islamabad-based think tank, Qureshi said the “China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) would bring prosperity for people worldwide through global integration”.
“The BRI, with the CPEC as a flagship project, utilizes the economic geography and enhances the connectivity of Asia, Europe and Africa,” Shah Mahmood further added.
In his speech, Foreign Minister Qureshi highlighted Pakistan’s strategic importance regarding geopolitics to geoeconomics shift – a country situated at the crossroad of South, Central, and West Asia would remain accessible to all.
