KABUL, Sep 25, (Asia Free Press): Afghanistan foreign ministry on Saturday welcomed the Pakistan decision to abolished sales tax on fresh fruits coming from Afghanistan.

In a statement, the foreign ministry said that the efforts of the ministry of foreign affairs of Afghanistan, Pakistan has been exempted the fresh fruits from taxes from September 24.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan welcomes this action of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and calls for increased trade and transit between the two countries and the creation of more facilities,” said the ministry.

On Friday, the Pakistan Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has abolished the sales tax on fresh fruit being imported from Afghanistan, except apple, which would be continued to be taxed.

According to the officials, the tax has not been abolished from apple as Islamabad already imposed sales tax on Iranian apple which is imported from the Pakistan-Iran border crossing at Taftan, however the smugglers bringing the Iranian apple shipments through Afghanistan to Pakistan escaped from taxes.
