Sikhs stage massive protest outside Indian Embassy in Washington

Washington: On India’s Independence Day, Sikhs staged a massive protest outside the Indian Embassy in Washington, DC, condemning the Modi government’s actions and demanding justice for Sikh victims.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration saw a large assembly of Indian-origin Sikhs, who rallied against the Indian government while waving Khalistan flags and chanting defiant slogans. The protesters declared, “We will get Khalistan,” “Punjab, Haryana, Delhi will be Khalistan,” “Long live Khalistan,” “Down with Modi,” and “Down with India,” and symbolically burned the Indian flag during the rally.

Speakers at the protest denounced the Indian Embassy, labeling it a “killer house” where schemes against Sikhs are devised. They held the Modi government responsible for the killings of Sikhs not only in India but also in Canada and the United States. The speakers demanded justice for the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar and the thwarted attempt on Gurpatwant Singh Pannun’s life. They emphasized the urgent need for accountability and an end to Indian government’s persecution of Sikhs.

The speakers highlighted that despite India gaining independence in 1947, Sikhs in the country remain oppressed and enslaved, and are determined to dismantle these chains of subjugation. They emphasized their unwavering commitment to the Khalistan movement, arguing that holding Khalistan referendums abroad demonstrates their resolve to achieve an independent Sikh state.

The speakers further criticized the Modi government for its widespread persecution of minorities in India, asserting that New Delhi has made life difficult for Sikhs and other minorities. They also condemned the ongoing genocide of Kashmiri Muslims and asserted that freedom is a universal right that should be granted to Kashmiris as well.

The protesters made it clear that they do not recognize India’s Independence Day and traveled from various US cities to deliver a strong message to the Modi government that they will not cease their efforts until Khalistan is established. The protest concluded with the burning of the Indian flag.
