Islamabad: King Abdullah II, Jordan’s king has advocated for a Middle Eastern NATO, whose vision ‘must be very clear, and its role ‘well defined’. Propound
Jordan, he said, would support the ‘formation of a Middle Eastern military alliance similar to NATO between like-minded states.’
Abdullah made those assertions while speaking to CNBC’s Hadley Gamble, while claiming that Jordan sees itself as a partner of NATO.
Abdullah’s remarks come after reports that a US plan to establish an air defense alliance in the Middle East between a number of Arab states and Israel and the US-sponsored Middle Eastern alliance will be directed against Iran.
Speaking to Israeli lawmakers on June, Defense Minister Benny Gantz said that the “Middle East Air Defense Alliance” is already underway.
Despite the dangerous plan that would through Muslim Nations against each other in the region with no direct repercussion to the US, some Arab leaders appear to be enthusiastic about the dangerous plan.
The South Front report said that “the suggested alliance would place Arab states on the frontline in any Israeli confrontation with Iran.’
“I’d like to see more countries in the area come into that mix. I would be one of the first people that would endorse a Middle East NATO,” King was quoted by South Front, a security and defence magazine.
“The mission statement (of Middle East NATO) has to be very, very clear. Otherwise, it confuses everybody,” he said
