BUCHAREST, Jan 10 (Asia Free Press): Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Sunday said the strategic partnership between Pakistan and the European Union (EU) had entered the next level, and Pakistan was keen on enhancing bilateral ties with the countries in Europe including Romania, according to a local media report.
Qureshi, accompanied by Pakistan’s ambassador to Romania, Dr Zafar Iqbal, spoke at a dinner hosted in honour of members of the European Parliament and Parliament of Romania, APP reported.
Pakistan is an emerging market of more than 200 million people provided immense investment opportunities, Qureshi said. He further mentioned that Pakistan is determined to expand economic and trade engagements with all European Union member countries, including Romania.
Members of Romania and the European Parliament welcomed the Pakistan Foreign Minister and expressed their desire to promote economic relations with Pakistan.
Later, while speaking to the Pakistani diaspora in Romania, the foreign minister said overseas Pakistanis had been given voting rights. Now they would have the opportunity to influence policymaking in Pakistan.
Qureshi, while appreciating Pakistani diaspora said, they sent $30 billion to Pakistan; Pakistani investors could now repatriate their profits earned in Pakistan and were also given exemptions in taxes and duties.
FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi is on his first official visit to Romania and Spain from 9-12 January 2022. This is also the first diplomatic visit of Qureshi to any country after hosting the 17th extraordinary moot of the OIC Council of Foreign Minister (CFM) on Afghanistan’s situations, which concluded on Dec 19, 2021, with a remarkable outcome.
