Special representative for Kabul arrived in Islamabad after meeting with new acting Afghan PM in Kabul
ISLAMABAD, Sep 23 (Asia Free Press): Russian and Chinese special envoys for Afghanistan arrived in Islamabad following meetings with key Afghan leaders in Kabul.
Pakistan foreign ministry high officials welcomed Ambassador Yue Xiaoyong of China and Russian Ambassador Zamir Kabulov upon arrival in Islamabad.
On Wednesday, the Chinese and Russian special representative for Afghanistan met with Pakistan Foreign Secretary Sohail Mehmood in the foreign ministry who appreciated the Special Envoys’ visit to Kabul and highlighted the importance of close coordination to promote the shared objectives of a peaceful, stable, sovereign and prosperous Afghanistan.
Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s special Envoy to Afghanistan was also present in the meeting.
Mehmood expressed the hope that the government in Afghanistan would continue to take steps leading to lasting stability in Afghanistan.
The visiting envoys discussed the latest situation in Afghanistan with Pakistani foreign ministry top official and review the latest political and economic situation in the war-torn country .
“Pakistan would continue its efforts to support Afghanistan on its path to peace, progress and prosperity, “ said the Foreign Secretary.
On Wednesday, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said that all neighbours of Afghanistan will collectively decide about recognition of new Afghan government, keeping in view the progress.
In an interview with BBC, he said Pakistan is trying to engage with Taliban for an inclusive government in Afghanistan, as there will not be any long-term sustainable peace and stability unless all factions and ethnic groups are represented.
Khan urged the international community to help and encourage the interim Taliban government which is going in right direction.
