SRINAGAR, June 20, (AFP): An arrested youth including four others were killed in an encounter with Indian armed forces in Lolab area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the local police said on Monday.
A police spokesperson said two armed youth were killed in a fresh exchange of fire in the ongoing encounter in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, taking the death toll in the overnight operation to four. The encounter broke out on Sunday afternoon after security forces cordoned the area following a tip off about the presence of armed youth in the area.
Two youth were killed in the encounter with the Indian armed forces in Gujjarpora area of Damhal Hanji Pora in Kulgam district of southern part of Kashmir on Sunday.
Another youth was killed in a separate encounter with armed forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The encounter broke out at Chatapora in Pulwama after the armed forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area, a police official said.
It is pertinent to mention that seven youth were killed by Indian armed forces in Kashmir in last 24 hours which includes four in Kupwara, two in Kulgam and one in Pulwama.
