Islamabad, Oct 6, (Asia Free Press): Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said on Wednesday, the government has taken timely action for bringing the killers of Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah to justice, the local news agency BSS reported.
“We’ve taken action instantly … We don’t want any such incident (killing) anywhere.” he told journalists at the Foreign Ministry office.
According to BSS, the Foreign Minister further said that the authorities have arrested the several suspected involved in the killing and Home Ministry was working on it.
Mohib Ullah, the chairman of the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH), was shot dead at Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar by unidentified assailants on September 29.
The foreign minister has termed the Rohingya leader’s murder as regrettable, and said that Mohib Ullah was engaged in a legitimate movement for Rohingya repatriation from Bangladesh to their land of origin in Myanmar, the state media reported.
The Rohingya issue came up prominently during the just concluded session of UN General Assembly despite the current developments and a looming crisis in Afghanistan, he added.
Bangladesh has hosted over 1million forcibly displaced Rohingyas since August 2017 at the Cox’s Bazar district. Most of the immigrants entered into Bangladesh as a result of military crackdown in Myanmar, which has been called a “textbook example of ethnic cleansing” and many rights groups termed it as “genocide”.
