Islamabad, Nov 3, (Asia Free Press): Passenger bus plunged 500 metres into a ravine in Pakistan’s Kashmir region on Wednesday, killing at least 22 people, including women and children, according to local media.

The accident happened in Pallandri, a district in the Pakistan administered Kashmir.

Rashid Naeem Khan, a police officer, said the bus was on its way to Rawalpindi when it went out of control on the mountainside above the Neelum River.

He said the bus had a “technical fault” and that eight passengers were in critical condition. He said several passengers were also injured in the crash and rescuers transported the dead and injured to a nearby hospital.

Kashmir has been divided between Pakistan and neighboring India since their independence from British rule in 1947. The two countries each claim Kashmir in its entirety and have fought three wars between them over it.
