Two school teachers were shot dead inside a government school on Thursday in the Eidgah locality of Srinagar District in the Indian Administered Kashmir, the local media reported.
A female teacher and her male colleague became the latest targets of the recent killing spree.
The incident marks the seventh targeted killing carried out in the last six days.
The two slain have been identified as the principal of the Govt Boys school Sangam, Eidgah, Supinder Kour, a resident of Alochi bagh area of Srinagar, and Deepak Chand, a resident of Jammu, officials confirmed as reported by local news agency KNO.
On Tuesday, the killing spree began when a renowned chemist Makhan Lal Bindroo was shot dead by the assailants from a point-blank range while dispensing medicines at his pharmacy.
Two other people were shot dead in separate attacks on Tuesday evening; one among the slain was a nonlocal food vendor who belonged to India’s state Bihar. Another was a local taxi driver who was killed in the Hajin area of North Kashmir.
At least 25 civilians, including political party workers, have been killed in targeted assassinations this year, the local police said in a statement.
On Thursday, Jammu and Kashmir Bhartiya Janata Party General Secretary Ashok Koul condemned the ‘innocents killing’ of two teachers in Srinagar. “It is a clear security lapse from the government end as seven civilians have been killed in Kashmir from the past five days,” Koul added.
All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed shock and grief and strongly condemned the killing of M. L. Bindroo, a leading pharmacist of the valley, and two others on Tuesday evening.
“APHC once again appeals to the world community to intervene in putting an end to the daily violence and tragic loss of life in Kashmir that is taking a serious toll on its people, by pushing for the resolution of the lingering Kashmir conflict, which is the root cause of all this suffering,” the statement reads.
India and Pakistan administer the territory of Jammu and Kashmir both in parts. The violence has been ceaselessly going on in the Indian administered part of Kashmir since 1989. The indigenous Kashmiris have taken up weapons against the Indian armed forces to free their territory. The vicious circle of violence has resulted in the killing of around 100,000 people, including civilians, armed rebels, and Indian armed forces.
