KABUL(BNA): Takayoshi Kuromiya, former Ambassador of Japan to Afghanistan, visited the country’s National Archive today and met with its director, Qari Ubaidullah Hanif.
During the meeting, Hanif highlighted the close and longstanding ties between Afghanistan and Japan, noting that Afghans will never forget the services of the late Tetsu Nakamura, the Japanese-born Afghan humanitarian, and will always honor his legacy.
He also emphasized the importance of cultural relations between the two countries and expressed hope that such ties would grow stronger in the future.
Hanif further stated that since the return of the Islamic Emirate to power, significant progress has been made in various areas, including the digitization of archival documents and the renovation of the National Archive building. He added that efforts have also been made to prevent the smuggling of important historical artifacts.
The director stressed the need for enhanced cooperation between the national archives of Afghanistan and Japan.
For his part, Kuromiya underlined the importance of bilateral cultural ties in addition to other areas of cooperation. He praised the Islamic Emirate’s efforts in safeguarding Afghanistan’s historical heritage and expressed hope that Japan’s new ambassador to Afghanistan will carry out a productive mission with notable achievements.
In recent months, several other foreign officials have also visited the National Archive in Kabul.
