ISLAMABAD, January 20, (Asia Free Press): Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi had a telephonic conversation with his Indonesian counterpart Rento L.P Marsudi, during which the two counterparts discussed the substantial political goodwill between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of Indonesia should be fully utilised to deepen trade and economic ties and to expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges, according to local media.

During a telephonic conversation between the two counterparts, Shah Mahmood expressed satisfaction at the deep-rooted and fraternal relations between the two Islamic countries, also members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), state-run APP reported.

Qureshi, who always wished to have strong and balanced relations with regional countries, also underscored Pakistan’s strong desire to intensify further the multi-dimensional bilateral ties across the entire spectrum for durable peace and long-lasting political and economic regional stability.

Commending Indonesia’s prominent role in advocating and advancing causes of the Islamic Ummah, Qureshi thanked the Indonesian counterpart for her active participation during the 17th Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFMs) on Afghanistan, held in Islamabad, Pakistan, concluded on December 19, 2021, with a massive outcome pertinent to the Afghan crisis.

Referring to the critical role of women in society, the two counterparts emphasized the role of women parliamentarians in promoting and cementing democratic values.

Both Pakistan and Indonesia also agreed to work closely on all mutual interest issues to boost further the relationship as Pakistan and Indonesia have a historical relationship deeply rooted in mutual respect and support at the regional and global level. Pakistan established diplomatic relations with Indonesia back in 1950. Both countries also celebrated 70 years of establishing diplomatic relations in 2020, which is a true sign of a consistent mutual bond between the two regional and Islamic countries.
