Visiting Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister meets Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to discuss the Afghanistan situation
ISLAMABAD, Oct 5, (Asia Free Press): Pakistan and Iran on Tuesday agreed for joint efforts to promoting bilateral relations, enhancing trade, economic and political ties between two the two neighbouring countries, state-run media said.
This understanding was reached during a meeting of the Iranian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Baqeri and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad, Radio Pakistan reported.
The meeting discussed bilateral relations, cooperation in diverse fields, and the overall evolving situation of Afghanistan.
Appreciating the continued Iranian support to Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue, Foreign Minister Qureshi termed the cooperation on different issues at international forums as a welcome sign.
He also urged the international community to take bold steps for financial assistance to Afghanistan to prevent human and economic crises in the war-hit country.
“Afghanistan required immediate provision of humanitarian assistance and that the international community should fully support the Afghan people at this critical juncture”, Qureshi said.
He stressed the importance of continued economic engagement with Afghanistan to avert economic collapse, which could lead to refugee influx and regional instability.
The visiting Deputy Foreign Minister thanked Foreign Minister Qureshi for receiving him.
He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to enhance bilateral cooperation and advance shared objectives in the region and said that Foreign Minister Dr. Amir Abdollahian looked forward to his visit to Pakistan.
