JEDDAH, Dec 30, (Asia Free Press): Hissein Brahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), received Ahmed Abdel-Sadouk, the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and its Permanent Representative to the OIC, on Wednesday at the headquarters of the OIC’s General Secretariat.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General praised Algeria’s active role in the OIC’s activities and programs and its support for joint Islamic action, while Envoy Abdel-Sadock, affirmed Algeria’s firm support and cooperation for the OIC member-state, according to media reports.
The two sides addressed several important issues of common interest.
Earlier, this year Algeria cut its diplomatic relations with Morocco because of “hostile actions” following months of resurgent tensions between the North African rivals. After tension increased between the two countries, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League and Saudi Arabia called for “dialogue” to resolve arguments between neighbouring Algeria and Morocco.
The OIC body played a vital role to bring closer the two African nations by underscoring that both nations have a shared history and common interests, and they are two active members of the OIC and influential countries when it comes to joint Islamic action.
