Islamabad, Nov 9, (Asia Free Press): Shehryar Khan Afridi, the chairman of Pakistan’s Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, urged the special envoy of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Jammu and Kashmir to consider economic sanctions and embargoes against India for human rights violations committed by its troops in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK) on Tuesday.
The OIC delegation led by Yousef Aldobeay, the special envoy on Jammu and Kashmir, attended the special meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir chaired by him.
Khalid Khurshid, the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister, and Sardar Abdul Qayum Niazi, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), were among those who attended the meeting. An APHC-AJK chapter delegation and advisory boards from the Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir were also part of the meeting.
OIC being a key stakeholder in resolving the Kashmir conflict, Chairman of the Kashmir Committee Shehryar Khan Afridi said the OIC contact group must do its part.
In the garb of the COVID-19 pandemic, Shehryar Khan Afridi has claimed that the Indian government is planning to kill all the top Kashmiri leaders in prison. Two of Kashmir’s most prominent leaders, Syed Ali Geelani and Ashraf Khan Sehrai, died while they were under detention of Indian authorities.
While in prison, Asiya Andrabi, Dr Qasim Faktoo, Yasin Malik, and other Kashmiri leaders could be killed, he warned.
Yousef Aldobeay, the OIC’s special envoy for Kashmir, stated that Pakistan plays an important role in the OIC. The OIC is concerned about the demographic change taking place in Occupied Kashmir, according to him.
He expressed his disappointment that the international community had not kept its promises regarding Kashmir.
At the recent United Nations General Assembly in New York, the OIC contact group raised the issue of Kashmir, he said.
According to him, the OIC contact group has been taking concrete steps toward resolving the Kashmiri conflict.
“If we have a clear mandate, OIC can raise a proposal at the United Nations for putting economic sanctions and embargoes on India but it needs a huge diplomatic effort,” he said.
He said that the OIC group would do everything possible to help resolve Kashmir dispute.
Sardar Abdul Qayum Niazi, the Prime Minister of AJK, and Gilgit Baltistan’s Chief Minister also addressed the OIC and urged it to take punitive action against the Indian occupational regime in Jammu and Kashmir.
On the panel, parliamentary committee members said that the OIC must show its will and move forward from lip service on the Kashmir dispute and take practical steps to assist the suffering humanity in Jammu and Kashmir.
