LAHORE: As many as 212 Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activists were arrested by Lahore police after they lodged nationwide protest movement for the release of former premier Imran Khan.

The activists were holding protests in different areas of the city when the police arrested them.

Out of 212, the city police released 170 and discharged cases against them. It produced remaining 42 activists before the court and sought their physical remand.

The court sent the 42 activists to jail on judicial remand.

SSP Investigation Muhammad Naveed told Dawn that 170 PTI activists were released and 42 others were sent to jail.

He said the police would complete the investigation as they violated Section 144 imposed in the city.

SAHIWAL: Pakpattan police registered three different FIRs against 41 PTI office-bearers and workers — three of them nominated and 38 unidentified – under 16 MPO.

The cases were separately filed with the Saddar, Malkian Hans and Faridnagar police stations.

District Police Officer (DPO) Javed Chadhar said the suspects were booked for allegedly instigating public sentiment against the government, delivering provocative speeches, and disrupting public order during PTI’s nationwide protest held on Tuesday.

The FIRs were lodged following complaints by sub-inspectors Asghar Ali, Falik Sher, and Muhammad Yasin from the respective police stations. The charges include violations under Sections 341, 148, 149, 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 16-MPO.

The Pakpattan deputy commissioner had imposed Section 144 prohibiting public gatherings.

The named individuals include Abdur Rehman, Muhammad Ashiq, and Nasir.

OKARA: Party’s 35 nominated and as many unidentified workers were booked for taking out a protest rally on Tuesday.

As per first information report, PTI workers led by party provincial assembly ticket holder Mehr Abdul Sattar held a rally in protest against the unjust arrest of IK.

On the report of Saddar police sub-inspector Abid Hussain registered a case against 70 PTI activists u/s 341,188,148 and 149 PPC along with section 16 of The Maintenance of Public Order.

Eight among the 35 nominated workers, including Mehr Abdul Sattar, Noor Nabi, Tahir Zaman, Haji Mehboob, Abdul Sattar Chaman, Khadim Hussain Jhakkhar, Muhammad Arshad Dolaand, and Rao Muhammad Qaiser had got pre-arrest bail from the court of ASJ Abdul Ghafoor till Sept 9.
