KABUL (BNA): The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have jointly declared the expulsion of Afghan refugees from Pakistan as a violation of human rights.

They have urged Pakistan to reconsider this decision.

Both organizations have appealed to Pakistan to continue supporting Afghan refugees, emphasizing that their return should be voluntary, safe, and free from pressure.

The UNHCR and IOM have also requested other countries to halt the forced repatriation of Afghan citizens.

According to UNHCR statistics, there are 3.7 million Afghan refugees in Pakistan, but only 1.3 million possess residency documents.

This development follows the interim government of Pakistan’s decision to set a deadline for hundreds of thousands of Afghan citizens to leave the country by the end of this month, a move that has elicited global reactions.
