ISLAMABAD, Dec 18, (Asia Free Press): Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan would continue to play its positive and approachable role for durable peace and long-lasting political and economic stability in the border-sharing Afghanistan as it was in the interest and one of the prime priorities of Pakistan to stabilize Afghanistan and find a solid solution of the current critical crisis.
In his statement, given the upcoming meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis, he said the situation could adversely affect neighbouring countries in the region, APP reports.
“The Government of Pakistan was extending every possible facility to the Afghan citizens to bring them out from this ongoing critical situations”, Shah Mahmood.
He also urged that “Pakistan was trying its best to fulfil its responsibility in ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan, but it is the international community to consider bringing improvement to the situation in Afghanistan”.
In his statement at the end, Shah Mahmood mentioned that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) commanders, who had served in Afghanistan, were also expressing deep concern over the country’s deteriorating situation.
Tomorrow, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, will inaugurate the 17th extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC, to be attended by the OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim, foreign ministers of the Islamic countries, and other international delegates to think, discuss and find possible and solid ways for Afghanistan’s crisis.
