Despite human rights violations in Kashmir, other parts of India, Biden avoid mentioning in his UN speech
ISLAMABAD, Sep 24 (Asia Free Press): US President Joe Biden’s address to the UN General Assembly has disappointed Muslims and other minorities in India and Kashmir for avoiding human rights violations committed by the Hindu-nationalist BJP government.
On Thursday, Pakistan foreign ministry spokesman Asim Iftikhar Ahmad termed “doublespeak”
During his weekly briefing, responding to a question that US President in his addressed the 76th Session of UNGA, he asked the countries to call out and condemn the oppression of religious and ethnic minorities, mentioning Xinjiang and Northern Ethiopia, but failed to mention Kashmir or the religious minorities in India, the ministry spokesman said: “I think your observation is valid.”
“This is something that is unfortunately not new, and this is what you call ‘doublespeak’ and ‘double standards,” he added.
“We have consistently maintained that human rights have to be respected and upheld universally, without any distinction or political motives.”
Washington has been unduly favouring India to contain China and propagating against human rights violations in Xinjiang.
