Afghanistan acting foreign minister urges US release its country’s funds
KABUL (Asia Press Press) – Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi said that Taliban support oppressed people around the world and stand with people of Kashmir.
During his first press conference on Tuesday after taking charge of his office, Muttaqi said that Taliban support the Kashmiri people and suggested the issue should be resolved by two South Asian neighbour through dialogue.
“We stands with the Kashmiri people and oppressed everywhere,” he said while responding to a question.
Afghan foreign minister also welcomed the international community’s humanitarian aid pledge for Afghanistan and assured that his government would coordinate with UN agencies to reach the aid to needy people.
At a UN meeting in Geneva on Monday, the international community pledged to provide over $1 billion in humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
However, a number of countries said they will provide the funds to UN aid agencies instead of Taliban government.
Muttaqi while recalling the US troops withdrawal from his country said that Taliban assisted US to give its troops a safe passage and expected Washington would be appreciate that gesture.
“We provided safe passage for US soldiers to leave Afghanistan, but instead of thanking us the US has frozen Afghanistan’s assets,” he said and adding despite thanks, Washington has frozen Afghanistan’s assets.
He also requested the Asian Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank, to provide development funds to Afghanistan.
“We urge the Asian Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank to support Afghanistan in the development sector, in education and in other areas,” he said
