Malala was evacuated from the country after receiving initial treatment. The Nobel laureate has returned to the country only a handful of times since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am excited to join Muslim leaders from around the world for a critical conference on girls\u2019 education,\u201d Malala said today in a&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Malala\/status\/1877477238964191261\">post<\/a>&nbsp;on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn Sunday, I will speak about protecting rights for all girls to go to school, and why leaders must hold the Taliban accountable for their crimes against Afghan women &amp; girls.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A spokesperson for her Malala Fund charity confirmed she will attend the summit in person, which is scheduled to take place on January 11 and 12 and will focus on girls\u2019 education in Muslim communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dawn.com\/large\/2025\/01\/101220120750c39.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Afghanistan is the only country in the world where girls and women are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1878642\">banned<\/a>&nbsp;from going to school and university. Since returning to power in 2021, the Taliban government has imposed an austere version of Islamic law which the United Nations has called \u201cgender apartheid\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Girls are only allowed to attend primary school, while women are largely restricted to working in segregated environments in health or education. The Taliban administration claims that Islamic law \u201cguarantees\u201d the rights of Afghan men and women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The summit will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and bring together ministers and ambassadors from 44 countries as well as representatives from the United Nations and the World Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The summit will confirm \u201cthe shared commitment of (the) Muslim community to empower girls through education\u201d, according to a government statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Federal Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui on Thursday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1884154\/conference-to-address-hurdles-to-girls-access-to-education-tomorrow\">said<\/a>&nbsp;that the two-day international conference would address challenges to women\u2019s access to education across the Muslim world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, Malala&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1398707\">visited<\/a>&nbsp;her hometown in Swat, more than five years after the attack.
