{"id":9105,"date":"2024-11-14T16:00:14","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T11:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.asiafreepress.com\/?p=9105"},"modified":"2024-11-14T16:00:16","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T11:00:16","slug":"fo-terms-report-on-pak-china-joint-security-talks-as-motivated-by-agenda-to-create-confusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.asiafreepress.com\/en_gb\/asia\/fo-terms-report-on-pak-china-joint-security-talks-as-motivated-by-agenda-to-create-confusion\/","title":{"rendered":"FO terms report on Pak-China joint security talks as \u2018motivated by agenda to create confusion\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Foreign Office (FO) on Thursday dismissed reports of Beijing pushing Islamabad to join security efforts in Pakistan, terming them as \u201cspeculations [\u2026] motivated by an agenda to create confusion\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement by Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch comes amid heightened security concerns, with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1869028\/fo-perplexed-by-concerns-over-security-of-chinese#:~:text=the%20Chinese%20envoy%20had%20expressed%20frustration%20over%20the%20attacks%2C%20stating%20it%20was%20%E2%80%9Cunacceptable%E2%80%9D\">China\u2019s envoy<\/a>&nbsp;recently expressing frustration over the attacks, which Baloch said were \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1869028\/fo-perplexed-by-concerns-over-security-of-chinese#:~:text=the%20Chinese%20envoy%20had%20expressed%20frustration%20over%20the%20attacks%2C%20stating%20it%20was%20%E2%80%9Cunacceptable%E2%80%9D\">perplexing<\/a>\u201d remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, on Monday, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1871780\">reaffirmed<\/a>&nbsp;Beijing\u2019s support for Pakistan in countering terrorism. Lin Jian also asserted that China and Pakistan had \u201cthe resolve and capability to foil any attempt to harm China-Pakistan relations and ensure that terrorists will pay the price.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responding to queries during a weekly press briefing in Islamabad today, Baloch said: \u201cWe do not respond to media speculations that are based on unreliable sources and motivated by an agenda to create confusion about the nature of this relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe advise media to ascertain the motivation of individuals who feed them such stories,\u201d she stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The spokesperson further asserted: \u201cWe would not allow any effort to derail the Pakistan-China strategic partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two major deadly attacks have occurred this year \u2014 a March blast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1824034\">Bisham<\/a>&nbsp;killed five Chinese nationals while another blast near&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1863586\/pm-shehbaz-assures-chinese-envoy-of-personally-overseeing-karachi-terror-attack-investigation\">Karachi airport<\/a>&nbsp;last month killed two citizens of the neighbouring country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1871925\">media report<\/a>&nbsp;this week, citing \u201cfive Pakistani security and government sources\u201d, stated Beijing was pushing Islamabad to allow its own security staff to protect thousands of Chinese citizens working in Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither Beijing nor Islamabad have confirmed the talks officially. The interior and planning ministries had not responded to&nbsp;<em>Reuters<\/em>\u2019 requests for comment on the report, which also cited a \u201cwritten proposal sent by Beijing to Islamabad\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Separately,&nbsp;<em>Dawn.com<\/em>&nbsp;also approached the FO for a comment related to the report but did not hear back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Echoing her Chinese counterpart\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1871780#:~:text=China%2DPakistan%20partnership%2C-,Lin%20stated,-%2C%20%E2%80%9CChina%20and%20Pakistan\">remarks<\/a>, Baloch asserted today: \u201cPakistan and China have the resolve and capability to foil any attempt to harm China-Pakistan relations, including by spreading stories about the nature of our cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPakistan and China have robust dialogue and cooperation on [a] range of issues, including counterterrorism and security of Chinese nationals in Pakistan,\u201d she said, adding that the dialogue was based on mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to work with our Chinese brothers for the safety and security of Chinese nationals, projects and institutions in Pakistan,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quoting her Chinese counterpart, Baloch said: \u201cAttempts to undermine the mutual trust and cooperation between the two countries will not succeed.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Foreign Office (FO) on Thursday dismissed reports of Beijing pushing Islamabad to join security efforts in Pakistan, terming them as \u201cspeculations [\u2026] motivated by an agenda to create confusion\u201d.
