{"id":1743,"date":"2021-10-20T09:07:35","date_gmt":"2021-10-20T09:07:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.asiafreepress.com\/?p=1743"},"modified":"2021-10-20T12:22:18","modified_gmt":"2021-10-20T12:22:18","slug":"germany-arrests-2-ex-soldiers-for-alleged-terror-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.asiafreepress.com\/en_gb\/world\/germany-arrests-2-ex-soldiers-for-alleged-terror-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany arrests 2 ex-soldiers for alleged terror plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Suspects were planning to form paramilitary group, fight in Yemen against Houthi rebels, according to prosecutors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BERLIN, Oct. 20, (AA) &#8211; Germany has arrested two former soldiers for plans to form a terrorist organization, federal prosecutors said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspects Arend-Adolf G. and Achim A. were planning to form a paramilitary group to fight against Houthi rebels in Yemen and sought funding from Saudi Arabia, the Federal Prosecutor\u2019s Office said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their goal was to recruit around 150 former soldiers and police officers, with each member receiving a monthly salary of nearly \u20ac40,000 ($46,500), according to the prosecutors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The men made several attempts to get funding from Saudi Arabia for their plans, but Saudi authorities did not respond to their offer, the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday by operations conducted by special police units in the southern states of Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yemen has been engulfed by violence and instability since 2014 when Iran-aligned Houthi rebels captured much of the country, including the capital Sanaa.
