However, the Institute highlighted that the dispute in Jammu and Kashmir remains one of the longest-standing unresolved items on the international agenda, citing the continued denial of the Kashmiri people\u2019s inalienable right to self-determination as guaranteed by multiple UN Security Council resolutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The appeal specifically draws attention to the \u201ccatastrophic\u201d aftermath of the August 5, 2019, unilateral actions by the Government of India, which saw the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A. KIIR asserts that these actions have led to a systematic campaign of \u201csettler-colonialism\u201d through demographic engineering and the illegal alteration of land laws intended to change the Muslim-majority character of the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The KIIR\u2019s letter highlights several critical concerns, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Systemic Repression: The continued use of draconian laws (AFSPA, PSA, and UAPA) to detain thousands of civilians, including minors, without trial.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Political Incarceration: The mass imprisonment of veteran political leaders, human rights defenders, journalists, and students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information Blackouts: The imposition of some of the world\u2019s longest internet shutdowns and the criminalization of independent journalism.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Human Rights Violations: Documented extrajudicial killings and torture, as corroborated by OHCHR reports and the OIC\u2019s own Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In light of these crises, the Kashmir Institute of International Relations has urged the OIC General Secretariat to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reaffirm the OIC\u2019s principled support for the right to self-determination.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Convene an urgent meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demand the unconditional release of all political prisoners and activists.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Call for the repeal of oppressive security laws and an end to military impunity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reverse the unilateral demographic and land-law changes implemented since 2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dispatch an OIC\/IPHRC fact-finding mission to the region.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intensify diplomatic pressure at the UN Human Rights Council and the UN General Assembly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe people of Jammu and Kashmir have never abandoned hope in the Muslim Ummah,\u201d stated Altaf Hussain Wani, Chairman of KIIR. \u201cAt this critical juncture, the leadership of the OIC can be the difference between continued oblivion and the dawn of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kashmir Institute of International Relations has pledged its full cooperation and documentation support to the General Secretariat and the OIC Special Representative to ensure the Kashmiri cause remains a priority on the global stage.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR), led by Chairman Altaf Hussain Wani, has issued a formal appeal to the newly elected Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), calling for urgent and decisive action to address the deteriorating humanitarian and political situation in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IoJK).
