UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan lashed out at India for backtracking from its obligations under the UN Security Council resolutions guaranteeing the right of self-determination to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, arguing that its settler-colonial project in the disputed territory also flagrantly violated international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJammu and Kashmir is not, and has never been, an integral part of India,\u201d Pakistani delegate Asif Khan told the UN General Assembly\u2019s Special Political and Decolonization Committee on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was exercising his right of reply to the Indian delegate, N.K. Premachandran, for claiming that Kashmir was, and \u201cwill always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.\u201d  Premachandran, who is an MP, also called Pakistan a \u201cfountainhead of terror\u201d and went on to comment on its internal matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asif Khan, who is a minister at the Pakistan Mission to the UN, rejected the Indian allegation and branded India as \u201cthe world\u2019s largest producer of disinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kashmir, he said, is an internationally recognized disputed territory whose final status is to be determined through a free and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet me reiterate that the UN Declaration of 1960 decrees that \u2018all peoples\u2019 under alien subjugation have the right to self-determination,\u201d he said, adding that the right is also enshrined in the UN Charter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For long, India has tried to sell a false narrative, branding the just struggle of the people of Jammu & Kashmir as terrorism,\u201d Asif Khan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India\u2019s intransigence in denying the Kashmiri people their fundamental rights, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, mass incarcerations, sexual violence, and demographic engineering are the real reasons for the \u2018indigenous\u2019 freedom movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While it masquerades as a victim, he said, the truth is that India is the principal sponsor of state terrorism in the region with a dubious distinction of extraterritorial assassinations. \u201cIt has financed and directed terrorist proxies such as TTP, BLA, and the Majeed Brigade, whose attacks have killed thousands of innocent civilians in Pakistan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pakistani delegate said India\u2019s claim to be the world\u2019s largest democracy was \u201chollow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe ruling RSS-BJP ideology has institutionalized Islamophobia and turned persecution of minorities into state policy,\u201d Asif Khan said, pointing out that international human rights organizations have documented India\u2019s abuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India\u2019s resort to unprovoked aggression against Pakistan in May, targeting civilians, including women and children, was countered by Pakistan in a \u201cmeasured manner aimed solely at military targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIndia suffered significant losses, including multiple aircraft downed; It was Pakistan\u2019s responsible posture from a position of strength, and international facilitation, that prevented a dangerous escalation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conclusion, he said, Pakistan will continue to expose India\u2019s hypocrisy, oppose its state terrorism, and support the Kashmiri people\u2019s just and legitimate struggle for justice, dignity, and freedom.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
