{"id":8565,"date":"2024-08-29T15:30:25","date_gmt":"2024-08-29T10:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.asiafreepress.com\/?p=8565"},"modified":"2024-08-29T15:30:27","modified_gmt":"2024-08-29T10:30:27","slug":"pakistan-invites-indias-modi-to-sco-meeting-in-islamabad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.asiafreepress.com\/en\/asia\/pakistan-invites-indias-modi-to-sco-meeting-in-islamabad\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan invites India\u2019s Modi to SCO meeting in Islamabad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch on Thursday said that Pakistan had invited the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting being held in Islamabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pakistan is set to host the SCO heads of government meeting on October 15 -16. The event will be preceded by a ministerial meeting and several rounds of senior officials\u2019 meetings focused on financial, economic, socio-cultural, and humanitarian cooperation among the SCO member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a weekly press briefing, the Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed the country had sent invitations to the heads of countries to participate in the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAn invitation has also been sent to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi,\u201d she said, adding that some countries had already confirmed their participation in the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt will be informed in due course which country has confirmed,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked about ties with India, the spokesperson said, \u201cPakistan does not have direct bilateral trade with India.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, the spokesperson said that Pakistan\u2019s foreign secretary was at the 50th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) being held in Cameroon\u2019s Yaound\u00e9 from August 29 to 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe foreign secretary will present Pakistan\u2019s perspective on Gaza and Jammu and Kashmir there,\u201d she said, adding that he will also discuss \u201cterrorism and other global issues\u201d during the session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baloch added that \u201cPakistan strongly condemned Israel\u2019s bombing of a historic mosque in Khan Younis\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May last year, then-foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited India to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1750995\">attend<\/a>&nbsp;the two-day meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Orga\u00adni\u00adsation\u2019s (SCO) Cou\u00adncil of Foreign Ministers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was the first Pakistani foreign minister to visit India in almost 12 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At a Senate panel later that month, Bhutto-Zardari called it a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1755854\">productive and positive decision<\/a>\u201d to participate in the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs far as the Kashmir issue, bilateral issues between Pakistan and India, and the responsibilities of multilateralism are concerned, my conclusion after the trip is that it is a productive and positive decision to participate in the event,\u201d he said.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch on Thursday said that Pakistan had invited the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting being held in Islamabad.
