{"id":7047,"date":"2023-09-27T10:01:48","date_gmt":"2023-09-27T05:01:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.asiafreepress.com\/?p=7047"},"modified":"2023-09-27T10:01:49","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T05:01:49","slug":"pakistan-warns-against-threat-posed-by-ttp-terrorists-to-afghanistans-neighbours-world-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.asiafreepress.com\/en\/security\/pakistan-warns-against-threat-posed-by-ttp-terrorists-to-afghanistans-neighbours-world-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan warns against threat posed by TTP terrorists to Afghanistan\u2019s neighbours, world community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UNITED NATIONS: A top Pakistani diplomat has warned that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) could emerge as an umbrella organization for the terrorist groups in Afghanistan once Da\u2019esh is eliminated, posing a threat to regional and international peace and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnless the TTP, and other terrorist groups, are contained and neutralized, they will continue to pose an ever-present threat to Afghanistan\u2019s neighbours and possibly the international community,\u201d Ambassador Munir Akram told the UN Security Council on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He told the 15-member Council that TTP is responsible for a series of cross-border terrorist attacks on Pakistani military posts, as well as on civilian targets within Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnless the TTP is actively contained, it could emerge as an umbrella organization for the various terrorist groups and factions in Afghanistan once Daesh is eliminated,\u201d the Pakistani envoy said in a debate on the situation in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis concern is heightened by the support and sponsorship the TTP has received from some well-known \u2018spoilers\u2019 in our region,\u201d he said in a veiled reference to India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Noting that the presence of terrorist groups remains the major security threat within and from Afghanistan, Ambassador Akram spoke about \u201csome success\u201d in the Taliban fight against ISIL-K\/Da\u2019esh terrorists, reaffirming Pakistan\u2019s support and cooperation to neutralize them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Pakistan, he added, the immediate and major threat is posed by TTP, having lost hundreds of its brave soldiers and civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe border attacks have become more lethal due to the acquisition and use of advanced military equipment by the TTP terrorists, apparently from the stocks left behind by foreign forces,\u201d the Pakistani envoy said, adding that the majority of the suicide bombers in attacks claimed by the TTP within Pakistan have turned out to be Afghans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pakistan\u2019s Special Envoy on Afghanistan Asif Durrani has received Taliban\u2019s assurances about action taken against the TTP elements involved in those attacks and to prevent its terrorism, Ambassador Akram said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPakistan would welcome these steps once credibly implemented.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his remarks, he also said that Pakistan was encouraged by some positive developments in Afghanistan; while remaining concerned by some other issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pointing out that the the Taliban government was stable, Ambassador Akram noted that the law-and-order situation in Afghanistan had improved;
