{"id":559,"date":"2021-09-18T14:18:58","date_gmt":"2021-09-18T14:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.asiafreepress.com\/?p=559"},"modified":"2021-09-18T14:19:02","modified_gmt":"2021-09-18T14:19:02","slug":"at-least-2-dead-in-explosions-targeting-taliban-vehicles-in-jalalabad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.asiafreepress.com\/en\/asia\/afghanistan\/at-least-2-dead-in-explosions-targeting-taliban-vehicles-in-jalalabad\/","title":{"rendered":"At least 2 dead in explosions targeting Taliban vehicles in Jalalabad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>At least two people were killed and 19 more were wounded in separate explosions in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad on Saturday, according to a health official and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TOLOnews\/status\/1439142920414711813\" target=\"_blank\">local media<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The attacks, which targeted Taliban vehicles, are the first deadly blasts since the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1643653\">American withdrawal<\/a> from Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An official from the health department of Nangarhar Province told <em>AFP<\/em> that three people were killed and 18 were wounded, while several local media reported the attacks left at least two dead and 19 injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar, the heartland of Afghanistan&#8217;s militant Islamic State group, which claimed responsibility for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1642755\">bloody attack<\/a> that killed more than 100 people at Kabul airport at the end of August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1646723\/we-are-all-united-afghan-taliban-deny-reports-of-rifts-within-the-groups-leadership\">Afghan Taliban<\/a> returned to power in mid-August after toppling the former government, and they have promised to restore peace and security to the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pictures taken at the site of the blast showed a green pick-up truck with a white Taliban flag surrounded by debris as armed fighters looked on.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least two people were killed and 19 more were wounded in separate explosions in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad on Saturday, according to a health official and local media.
