Ankara, 17 January (Asian Free Press): President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan will travel to Albania on Monday at the invitation of Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama, according to media reports.

A statement issued by Turkiye’s Communication Directorate said discussions will be held on all aspects of the strategic partnership between Turkey and Albania and steps will be taken to enhance further cooperation between the two nations.

Erdogan will exchange views with top Albanian officials on regional and international issues and challenges, and also address Albania’s parliament, reported Anadolu Agency.

He will also attend a handover ceremony for hundreds of houses built by Turkiye in the northwestern town of Lac, which was struck by a powerful earthquake in November 2019.

Erdogan will also inaugurate the Ethem Bey Mosque in Tirana, the capital of Albania, which has been restored by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TCCA).

Both Turkey and Albania are predominantly Muslim nations and have great mutual relations in different fields. Both nations are part of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the largest Muslim countries’ body. In addition, they are full members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). Turkey and Albania are candidates for accession to the European Union (EU).
