United Nations —Pakistan has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s unilateral recognition of the “Somaliland” region as an independent entity, terming the move unlawful, provocative, and a direct attack on Somalia’s internationally recognized borders.
In a briefing to the UN Security Council, Pakistan’s acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, warned that Israel’s step constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and an attempt to undermine the territorial integrity of a sovereign UN member state. He stressed that Somaliland remains an integral and inseparable part of Somalia, and no foreign power holds the legal or moral authority to alter that reality.
Ambassador Jadoon urged the UN Security Council and the wider international community to speak with one unified voice, rejecting any actions that threaten Somalia’s unity. He called on global actors to prevent the normalization of decisions that rewrite internationally recognized borders through unilateral declarations.
Pakistan reaffirmed its longstanding support for Somalia’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, reminding the Council that the region’s status is not subject to negotiation through external interference.
