BEIJING, Dec 14, (Asia Free Press): Wang Wenbin, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, has said that the so-called “Summit for Democracy”, held by the United States recently, pursue to demolish democracy under the pretext of democracy and to undermine the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order underpinned by international law, according to local media.

The spokesman said that the so-called “Summit for Democracy”, drawing the ideological line and turning democracy into a tool and a weapon, sought to divert attention from U.S. internal problems. The United States move seems to preserve its hegemony worldwide, but it looks difficult now, reported by Xinhua.

“This move by the United States goes against the trend of the times, and has been widely opposed by the international community”, according to the spokesman.

The spokesperson also claimed “the United States is not a “beacon of democracy”, and the American-style democracy has deviated from the essence of democracy. The American-style democracy is full of malaises, the American-style democracy is a money-based game for the rich”.

“Ninety-one percent of congressional elections are won by candidates with greater financial support. It is ‘one person one vote’ in name, but ‘rule of the minority elite’ in reality. The general public are wooed when their votes are wanted but get ignored once the election is over,” the spokesperson further asserted while criticizing American’s move.

The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, called a “Summit for Democracy” held on December 9 and 10, 2021. According to Biden-Harris Administration, the summit’s primary purpose was to bring together leaders from government, civil society, and the private sector to set an affirmative agenda for democratic renewal and tackle the most significant threats faced by democracies today through collective action.
