ISLAMABAD: His Excellency Ambassador Jiang Zaidong addressed diplomats, scholars, and policy leaders at a high level seminar hosted by the National University of Sciences and Technology, focusing on the theme “SCO and the Global Governance Initiative.” The event examined the evolving international landscape and the growing importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing global challenges.
In his remarks, Ambassador Jiang noted that the current international environment is marked by uncertainty, geopolitical tension, and economic fragmentation. He emphasised that division and confrontation offer no lasting solutions and stressed that cooperation, dialogue, and solidarity remain the only viable path forward for global stability.
He underlined that countries must work together to promote peace, shared development, and inclusive prosperity through strengthened international partnerships.
Highlighting the achievements of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Ambassador described the “Shanghai Spirit” as the foundation of its success. Based on mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diverse civilisations, and common development, the SCO presents a constructive model for international engagement built on dialogue rather than coercion.
He stated that the organisation has demonstrated how regional cooperation can contribute meaningfully to peace, economic growth, and collective security.
Ambassador Jiang also presented China’s Global Governance Initiative as a practical framework for reforming international systems to make them more representative and effective. The initiative emphasises sovereign equality, adherence to international law, multilateralism, and people-centred development while reinforcing the central role of the United Nations.
According to the Ambassador, this approach aims to bridge gaps in global governance and ensure that developing countries have a stronger voice in shaping international decisions.
Special attention was given to the longstanding partnership between China and Pakistan. The Ambassador reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to deepening bilateral trust, expanding economic cooperation, and delivering tangible benefits through development projects that improve livelihoods.
He emphasized collaboration across trade, investment, security coordination, digital innovation, and emerging technologies, describing the relationship as a cornerstone of regional peace and stability.
The Ambassador noted that the SCO represents nearly half of the world’s population and largely comprises emerging and developing economies. He highlighted the organization’s growing role in amplifying the collective aspirations of the Global South for fairness, inclusion, and equitable participation in global governance.
He called for enhanced cooperation among developing nations to safeguard their interests in areas such as climate policy, economic systems, and technological standards.
Concluding his address, Ambassador Jiang encouraged all stakeholders to work collectively toward building a more balanced, just, and inclusive international order. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Pakistan and other partners through the SCO and broader multilateral platforms.
The seminar reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to constructive dialogue, sustainable development, and global peace.
